KENYA: “Kenyans Are Not Foolish”: Matiang’i Reads Malice in Alleged Break-In at Murkomen’s Office

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has cast doubt on reports that an intruder broke into Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen’s office, arguing that such a high-security office cannot be accessed undetected.

Speaking on Monday, January 26, Matiang’i highlighted that Nyayo House has multiple layers of security protecting the Interior CS’s office.

“Even if you don’t have brains, can you believe the stories you are being told? You know I was there. Nyayo House has about five layers of security before you get to the minister’s office. There is clearance outside, inside the building, and when you enter the lift, there are police; even when you get out of the lift, soldiers are there to receive you,” Matiang’i said.

The former CS, who also serves as Jubilee’s Deputy Party Leader, suggested that reports of the alleged intrusion may be a distraction from something else occurring at Murkomen’s office.

“There must be things going on there; the Kenyans are not foolish. Something is being planned there; you can see it. This is not rocket science. Something is happening there, and you will hear about it after two or three months,” he added.

The remarks follow a local newspaper report claiming that a mystery man sneaked into Murkomen’s office on the 20th floor of Nyayo House and stayed for nearly five hours without raising suspicion.

According to the report, CCTV footage showed the suspect entering the building on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 10:45 PM and leaving at 3:40 AM on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Staff discovered the intrusion after noticing tampered items upon arriving at work.

The Ministry of Interior has not yet issued an official statement regarding the alleged intrusion.
