Taraba women commissioner debunks N1bn corruption claim, faults activist’s allegations

Taraba State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mary Sinjen has debunked allegations raised by a social media activist, Abdulmumin Iman that the ministry has released N1 billion on consultancy.

Sinjen said Iman has misplaced information about the ministry’s functions by connecting funds approvals of Nigeria For Women Project to the authority of the Ministry for Women Affairs. She disclosed that the project is only domesticated in the ministry.

Iman had on social media handle accused the commissioner the permanent secretary of the ministry Rev. Eric Juyoh and the project coordinator of Nigeria For Women Project, Mr. Isaac Finya of conniving to approve a whooping sum of N1billion for consultancy in the year 2025.

Addressing journalist in her office in Jalingo on Friday, Sinjen said the Nigeria For Women Project is a world bank assisted project, aimed at assisting women across Nigeria, adding that the project is only been supervised by the state ministry for women affairs.

“In his claim, Iman said we have given approval of N1billion as consultancy approval for the Nigeria For Women Project, is not correct. We don’t give approvals for the project from here in the ministry.

“The project is been funded by the World Bank, we are not signatory to the approval. It is only World Bank that gives approvals for the project, I have not seen N1 billion since I assumed office as the commissioner of this ministry.

“Imam also in his post said Mr. Isaac Finya, the coordinator of Nigeria For Women Project was invited to answer questions at the headquarters of the ICPC, the invitation base on my knowledge was to throw more light on funds that were distributed by the federal coordinator, it was not an indictment on Taraba State wing of the project at all.

Sinjen called on the general public to disregard the post made by Imam against her, the permanent secretary of the ministry and the Taraba state coordinator of Nigeria For Women Project, stating that the information is not just true but unfounded as it reflects no truth at all.
