Maldini Scores In Spezia’s First-Ever Win Over Inter At Stadio Alberto Picco

March 11, (THEWILL) – Serie A giants, Inter Milan, suffered a stunning 2-1 defeat at the hands of relegation battlers, Spezia, on Friday, effectively ending their title hopes this season.

Despite dominating possession and creating several scoring chances, Inter were unable to find the back of the net, with Bartlomiej Dragowski’s early penalty save setting the tone for the rest of the match. Meanwhile, Spezia made the most of their opportunities, with substitute, Daniel Maldini, opening the scoring just minutes into the second half.

Romelu Lukaku’s late penalty looked to have rescued a point for Inter, but M’Bala Nzola’s last-gasp spot-kick secured a shock win for the hosts. It is Spezia’s first-ever victory over Inter at Stadio Alberto Picco. It was also a match where the son of AC Milan icon Paolo Maldini, Daniel, scored against the club’s arch rivals for Spezia, only his third career Serie A goal.

Inter now find themselves in danger of dropping out of the top four, while Spezia have moved six points clear of the relegation zone.

Spezia will look to build on their impressive victory when they face Sassuolo next, while Inter will shift their focus to the UEFA Champions League, where they will take on Porto before a crucial league clash against rivals Juventus.
