Several people on Wednesday night sustained injuries following a tragic road accident involving a 32-seater matatu along Enterprise Road in Nairobi’s Industrial Area.
Reports indicate that the vehicle overturned after the driver allegedly lost control, resulting in a mass-casualty incident that prompted an immediate response from rescue teams and members of the public.
Witnesses claimed the Public Service Vehicles (PSV) was being driven moments before the crash recklessly, with at least six passengers reportedly hanging outside the vehicle.
Some of the casualties are believed to be among those who were clinging to the matatu in what witnesses described as ‘ dangerous swerving’ before the vehicle lost control.

While confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross announced that it had dispatched a rescue team to the scene to help retrieve those trapped under the wreckage.
“A mass casualty road traffic incident involving an overturned PSV has occurred along Enterprise Road in Industrial Area, opposite Nairobi Prison. Kenya Red Cross emergency response teams are on the scene providing first aid and evacuation support to those affected,” Kenya Red Cross confirmed.
The number of passengers on board at the time of the accident remains unclear, but witnesses believe the vehicle might have been carrying more people than its designated capacity.
The police have yet to release an official statement on the matter, but investigations have been launched to establish the exact circumstances of the crash.
The latest incident has sparked fresh concerns over reckless driving by motorists on the Kenyan roads.
It comes just three days after another tragic crash near the Ole Sereni area along the Nairobi Expressway involving a Mercedes-Benz that burst into flames after losing control and colliding with roadside barriers.
CCTV footage of the incident showed the luxury vehicle veering from the fast lane before crashing into a guardrail and a concrete pillar, triggering a fire that engulfed the car within seconds.
A review of the footage suggested the Mercedes-Benz may have been struck from behind by a second vehicle while attempting to change lanes, with the impact reportedly causing the driver to lose control before crashing.
The second vehicle briefly veered into the merging lane following the collision, but later regained control and continued its journey.
