Ghana: Queiroz hails Caleb Yirenkyi and team discipline

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has singled out young midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi for praise following Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Wales, while also applauding the discipline shown by his players during the friendly match in Cardiff.

Yirenkyi made an instant impact after coming off the bench, scoring Ghana’s only goal of the match just six minutes after his introduction.

The goal was his first for the senior national team and further strengthened his growing reputation as one of Ghana’s brightest young talents.

Speaking after the game, Queiroz described the midfielder as a player with enormous potential and a bright future ahead of him.

“He is a great player. He has a great future,” the Ghana coach said. “I believe that with more experience, he can become one of the best players in the national team.”

The coach noted that international football demands both talent and experience, adding that young players like Yirenkyi must continue learning in order to reach the highest level.

Beyond Yirenkyi’s performance, Queiroz said he was pleased with how the entire team responded to his instructions.

He revealed that one of the biggest positives from the game was the commitment shown by the players to the game plan despite having very little preparation time.

“To be straightforward, what pleased me most was the way the players responded to my instructions and the game plan,” he said.

The coach was particularly impressed by the work of the defenders, praising the centre-back partnership for remaining calm and organised throughout most of the match.

According to Queiroz, the performance provided a strong foundation on which the team can build before the World Cup begins.

He believes that with additional training sessions, the Black Stars will become more efficient and consistent in both attack and defence.
