Dennis Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has claimed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) may be behind the alleged hacking of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s Facebook account.
He also suggested that Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation Minister Samuel Nartey George, or people connected to him, could have been involved, although he did not provide evidence to support the claim.
His comments come after Sam George challenged Afenyo-Markin to formally report the alleged hacking incident so that the matter could be investigated.
Speaking in an interview on June 6, 2026, Miracles Aboagye argued that the Minority Leader should not be forced to report the issue to authorities he does not trust.
“Afenyo does not have to report anything to him. Afenyo has been able to recover his account so why are you saying that in order for him to prove to you that his account has been compromised, he should come and report to you first. We don’t trust you so why should we come and report the same thing to you,” he said.
According to him, the fact that Afenyo-Markin was able to recover control of the account should be enough proof that it had been compromised.
He questioned why a formal complaint was being demanded before an investigation could be considered.
“You could have been the one who even compromised Afenyo’s account. Infact, I have always held my suspicion that it was the NDC that did that to Afenyo.
“Sam George can be unscrupulous and can use some unscrupulous people to actually hack people’s account. I have my strong suspicion that Sam George or somebody could be behind the Afenyo thing,” he added.
The controversy began after a Facebook post that appeared on Afenyo-Markin’s account went viral on social media. The post criticised the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025.
However, the Minority Leader later denied writing the post, describing it as fake and claiming that his Facebook account had been hacked.
The post was eventually deleted, but not before it sparked widespread public debate and discussion.
