The Anambra Police Command has reassured residents of adequate security, even as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called for cooperation from people in Saturday’s House of Assembly elections in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, while giving update on security situation in the state at the Command Headquarters, Amawbia, yesterday, said he is impressed with the level of security across the state.
The CP said: “Men and women of the Command, in collaboration with our sister agencies in the state, the Department for State Services (DSS), NSCDC, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), are fully equipped for the national assignment.
“We will ensure criminals do not pose any threat to the peace-loving people of the state during the voting process.
“We are fully equipped to render effective policing, secure election-sensitive materials and INEC officials against any attack. We are prepared to provide a conducive atmosphere for the electorate to exercise their voting right, as we would patrol the entire nooks and crannies of the state to reassure the people of their safety and ensure the election succeeds.
“With other sister agencies, we will take care of the 5,720 polling units and 326 wards in the state.” He advised political parties and their supporters to comport themselves properly during the exercise, warning that consequences await those who might want to operate outside the ambit of the law before, during and after the election.
Meanwhile, the state Commandant of NSCDC, Isidore Chikere, has appealed to eligible voters to be law abiding and conduct themselves in a peaceful manner during the election period. Chikere advised residents in the state to cooperate and support the NSCDC and other security agencies for peaceful and credible election.
The state Commandant, who briefed personnel deployed for Saturday’s election at the state Command Headquarters, Awka, charged officers to maintain political neutrality and avoid any act capable of betraying their professionalism.
