WAWA Congratulates ECOWAS Commission President on 51st Anniversary

The West African Women Association (WAWA) has extended its warmest congratulations to the President of the ECOWAS Commission,  Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, on the historic occasion of the 51st Anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In a joint statement issued by the WAWA Regional Headquarters and the Nigeria Chapter, the association praised the leadership of the commission and expressed strong solidarity with the regional bloc’s ongoing vision for integration and progress.

WAWA highly commended President Touray’s inspiring anniversary address, which emphasized the enduring values of peace, unity, regional integration, economic growth and tolerance.

According to the association, these core principles remain the vital bedrock needed to build a stronger, more resilient West African sub-region.

The leadership of the association, including Regional President, Honourable Mme Khady Tall Fall, Nigeria Chapter Focal Person Mrs. Bola Adekunle-Carew, Board of Trustees Chairman. Mrs. Pansy Olakanpo, Board Secretary,  Ch. Agnes Ojehomom, and esteemed board members, Senator Joy Emordi, Professor Mrs. Mary Solomon-Lar and Sir Chris Akwrandu, voiced collective appreciation for the Commission’s inclusive approach.

“As a regional women-focused organization, we are encouraged by the continued recognition of women as vital stakeholders in the ECOWAS vision.”

The association specifically noted with appreciation President Touray’s reaffirmation of ECOWAS’ commitment to inclusive development. They highlighted the strategic, irreplaceable role that women play in, fostering sustainable peacebuilding initiatives,  driving grassroots and macro-level economic empowerment, strengthening regional cohesion and integration.

As ECOWAS looks back on more than five decades of developmental progress, the WAWA ECOWAS Nigeria Chapter reiterated its unwavering dedication to supporting institutional initiatives aimed at promoting unity, stability  and prosperity across all Member States.

Looking ahead, the association pledged its total readiness to partner closely with the ECOWAS Commission to advance targeted programs that empower women, eliminate gender disparities and foster deeper regional solidarity.

The West African Women Association (WAWA) is a premier regional body dedicated to the advancement, empowerment and socio-economic integration of women across West Africa. The organization operates in close alignment with the overarching vision, treaties and development objectives of ECOWAS.
