March 27, (THEWILL) – Antonio Conte, the former manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has expressed his gratitude to the fans and club staff, who shared his “passion” following his departure from the English Premier League side.
The Italian left his position on Sunday, after 16 months in charge, and his assistant, Cristian Stellini, will take over until the end of the season. Conte’s departure came after a post-match rant following Spurs’ draw against Southampton on March 18, in which he criticised the team’s performance and labelled them as “selfish”.
Despite his short tenure, Conte thanked everyone at Spurs, who appreciated his intense way of coaching and expressed his appreciation for the fans, who supported him throughout his time at the club.
The departure of Conte has left Spurs in a precarious position, as they currently sit in fourth place in the EPL standings, just two points above fifth-placed Newcastle. With only a few games remaining in the season, the team and fans alike are hoping for a strong finish.
Some fans, however, have called for transparency from the board regarding the club’s future strategy, particularly in regard to the management of the team.
