Today, I join family, friends, colleagues and well-wishers in celebrating a man whose professional journey reflects dedication, discipline, humility and uncommon commitment to national service: Abubakar Ali.
After 35 remarkable years of service with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC, Abubakar Ali bows out with honour, leaving behind a name that will be remembered with deep respect in the nation’s oil and gas sector.
His career was not a narrow journey. It was a wide road of service across critical areas of NNPC’s operations. From the demanding environment of Kaduna Refinery operations to the Tin and Drum Manufacturing Unit, from the Lubes Plant to the vital field of Safety, he gave his knowledge, energy and experience to the system with quiet excellence.
As a Refinery Chief Superintendent, he understood the discipline required to keep complex industrial processes running. He knew that refinery work is not only about machines, plants and products; it is also about people, precision, responsibility and safety. In every assignment, he carried the seriousness of a man who knew that small details could make a big difference.

At the Tin and Drum Manufacturing Unit, he contributed to a section that may not always attract public attention but remains essential to the smooth chain of petroleum production, packaging and distribution. At the Lubes Plant, he was part of work that supported industrial activity, transportation and everyday economic life. In Safety, he helped uphold one of the most important values in any technical institution: that no task is successful unless people return home safe.
Later, as Deputy Manager, Innovation Management, in the Research, Technology and Innovation Department of NNPC, Abubakar Ali continued to serve with a forward-looking spirit. He moved from the hard lessons of refinery operations into the space of ideas, improvement and institutional transformation. That journey alone speaks volumes about his adaptability, professionalism and hunger for progress.
Abubakar Ali belongs to that generation of public servants who understood that institutions are built not only by policies and structures, but by people who show up every day with integrity, patience and a sense of purpose. He served in places where discipline mattered, where teamwork mattered, where safety mattered, and where experience was earned through years of commitment.
What stands out most about him is not only the length of his service, but the character with which he served. Thirty-five years in one institution is not a small achievement. It speaks of loyalty. It speaks of endurance. It speaks of sacrifice. It speaks of a man who understood the value of service beyond personal gain.
For those who worked with him, Abubakar Ali was more than a colleague. He was a dependable professional, a guide to younger officers and a calm presence in demanding moments. He carried himself with dignity, treated people with respect and allowed his work to speak louder than noise.
As he retires, we do not merely mark the end of a career. We celebrate a legacy. We celebrate his years at Kaduna Refinery. We celebrate his contributions to refinery operations, the Tin and Drum Manufacturing Unit, the Lubes Plant, Safety, and Innovation Management. We celebrate the knowledge he shared, the standards he upheld and the example he leaves behind.
Retirement is not an ending. It is a new chapter. For Abubakar Ali, it is a well-earned season of rest, reflection and continued relevance. His experience remains valuable, his name remains respected, and his contributions will continue to inspire those coming behind him.
On behalf of all who appreciate sincere service, I say congratulations to Abubakar Ali on this noble milestone. May the years ahead bring him peace, good health, fulfilment and the joy of seeing the seeds of his labour continue to bear fruit.
Thank you for 35 years of faithful service.
Congratulations, sir.
