An albino buffalo who has a remarkable resemblance to US president Donald Trump has been given an 11th hour reprieve from a sacrifice after the government of Bangladesh intervened.
The 750-kilogram beast has a distinctive quiff of blonde hair, bemusing locals who decided to nickname the cow Donald Trump after his likeness to the American leader.
The buffalo’s pinkish skin-like texture also distinguishes him from the herd and gives him the ‘uncanny resemblance’ to the Republican.
After the animal went viral, he drew huge crowds to the farm in Narayanganj near the capital Dhaka.
But having been sold to be slaughtered for an Eid al-Adha festival, he was set to be sacrificed.
However, Bangladesh’s home ministry stepped in at the last minute, citing security concerns.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered the buffalo be spared, the buyer refunded and the animal to be moved to a national zoo in Dhaka.
A ministry official said: ‘At the last moment, the decision was taken to spare the buffalo from sacrifice due to security concerns and the unusual level of public interest.’
The animal’s owner, Ziauddin Mridha, said fans have been taking pictures next to the distinctive animal following viral internet fame.
He told local outlets: ‘My younger brother jokingly named it Donald Trump after seeing the hair on its head.
‘It is very calm in nature. Albino buffaloes are generally peaceful and do not become aggressive unless provoked.’
One visitor agreed, telling Prothom Alo newspaper: ‘When I saw his pictures on Facebook, he looked exactly like Donald Trump. His facial structure and even hairstyle match that of Trump.’
They joked: ‘The buffalo is very calm and polite in nature, which definitely does not match with Donald Trump.’
A second cow in the area has also been given a nickname.
A 750kilogram buffalo has been called ‘Benjamin Netanyahu’ due to his aggressive and misbehaving nature, local outlets have stated.
It is claimed it has a ‘combative’ attitude while the hair and eyes resemble the Israeli Prime Minister.
A manager at the cattle farm was reported to have said: ‘Netanyahu is very naughty and has a devious intelligence.
‘Even when we go to feed it, it snorts and tries to gore us.’
Netanyahu was issued with an arrest warrant for crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court in 2024 due to allegations of starving civilians in Gaza as a method of warfare, murder, intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population and extermination.
