Ferrari’s first electric vehicle, the Luce, was unveiled last week and has sparked considerable controversy. While current CEO Benedetto Vigna has had to defend the model, a former Ferrari chief claimed the car risked “killing a legend”. He is now assuring Ferrari supporters that the company will keep producing cars with combustion engines.
Vigna said in an interview with Drive in Australia that Ferrari will have three different powerplant options. He spoke:
‘We have IC [internal combustion], we have the hybrid, and we have the electric. Full stop. Then the client can pick up whatever they want.’
According to Vigna, prospective consumers have told Ferrari that they would only buy from the company if it offered an electric car, and Ferrari has complied. “If you wait for the client to ask for that, it’s too late,” he stated. The four electric motors in the Luke may generate up to 1,050 horsepower.
The vehicle can accelerate to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds and 124 mph in 6.8 seconds. With a top speed of 192 mph, it functions as a Ferrari should, but it doesn’t look like one.
Vigna stated, “I think it doesn’t matter which technology you use, as long as you produce something that the public are in love with.”
