Widows of police officers who lost their lives in active service have received empowerment packages from the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Bauchi State Chapter, to enhance their livelihoods.
The intervention formed part of activities commemorating the 2026 International Widows Day under the theme, “From Grief to Growth: Building a Brighter Future for Widows.”
Chairperson of the association, Hajiya Fatimah Sani-Omolori, said the initiative reflects POWA’s commitment to supporting families of fallen police personnel through economic empowerment and welfare programmes.
She said beneficiaries received Point of Sale (POS) machines alongside bags of rice, sugar, vegetable oil and mats to improve their living conditions and promote financial independence.
Fatimah noted that the association would sustain its skills acquisition and entrepreneurship initiatives to enable police widows to become self-reliant.
She acknowledged the contributions of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Wunti Alheri Foundation and Fidelity Bank Plc for supporting the programme.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Lois Maje Bala thanked POWA and its partners, saying the support would go a long way in easing their hardships.
The Commissioner of Police, represented by DCP Musa M. Bulus, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the welfare of families of officers who died in the line of duty.
