45 suspects were charged at the Ngong court in Kajiado with unlawful assembly and blocking President William Ruto’s convoy.
The suspects appeared before Ngong Chief Magistrate Ariba Kutwa on Monday. While five women pleaded guilty, 40 men maintained their innocence.
The magistrate granted each suspect a Ksh.100,000 bond or an alternative cash bail of the same amount.
Reports indicate that buses and matatus transported the suspects to Nkarusa, Kajiado West, on Sunday. Upon arrival, the group blocked the road and obstructed President Ruto’s convoy as he left a fundraiser at the Nkarusa SDA Church.
Police intervened and dispersed the crowd after catching them singing “Wantam” songs. Officers later arrested the suspects as they boarded vehicles to leave.
Police are also investigating a Kajiado North politician who allegedly funded the 45 suspects. Authorities believe the politician instructed the group to crash the president’s meeting and disrupt it by chanting “Wantam,” though security officers blocked them from entering.
The court scheduled a follow-up hearing on June 18, 2026, for the five women who pleaded guilty. The 40 men who denied the charges will return to court in 14 days while police wrap up their investigations.
