The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has unveiled veteran journalist and media strategist, Mrs Yemi Kolapo, as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election, completing the party’s ticket ahead of the contest.

Kolapo was formally presented on Monday at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta during a ceremony attended by party leaders, stakeholders, youth groups, women organisations and supporters from across the state.

A former Senior Special Assistant on Communications and Strategy to ex-Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, Kolapo also has an extensive media background, having previously headed the Business Desk of The Punch and currently serving as Editor-in-Chief of The Point newspaper.

Speaking after her unveiling, Kolapo described her emergence as a call to higher service and a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the development of Ogun State.

She expressed gratitude to the party leadership and members for the confidence reposed in her and pledged total loyalty to the PDP and its governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu.

“Our mission is to restore hope to the people of Ogun State. We are committed to building a government that listens to the people, responds to their needs and ensures that no community is left behind in the development process,” she said.

Kolapo assured supporters that she would deploy her professional experience, leadership skills and commitment to public service in helping to drive the party’s vision for the state.

In his remarks, Adebutu described his running mate as a seasoned professional and accomplished leader whose selection would strengthen the PDP’s electoral prospects.

According to him, Kolapo’s emergence followed extensive consultations among party stakeholders and reflects the party’s commitment to competence, inclusiveness and effective governance.

He noted that the PDP ticket offers Ogun residents a credible alternative capable of addressing the state’s socio-economic challenges through purposeful leadership and people-oriented policies.

Adebutu pledged that a PDP administration would prioritise job creation, industrial expansion, infrastructure development and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

Also speaking, the Ogun State Chairman of the PDP said the choice of Kolapo underscores the party’s determination to present capable and experienced candidates for the task of governing the state.

He urged party members to intensify mobilisation efforts across the state’s 20 local government areas and work collectively towards securing victory in the 2027 election.

Party supporters at the event described Kolapo’s emergence as a major boost to the PDP campaign, citing her professional accomplishments, leadership credentials and longstanding contributions to grassroots development.
