Reps Speaker, Abbas Declares Fifth Term Bid, Lists Achievements

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, on Saturday formally declared his intention to seek a fifth term as the representative of Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State.

Abbas made the declaration at the Mallawa Eid Ground in Zaria, where a large crowd of supporters, party loyalists, community leaders and political associates gathered for the ceremony.

Naija News reports that the event followed a solidarity walk by thousands of his supporters from the Emir’s Palace in Zaria through Babban Dodo, Lemu, Kofar Doka and Tudun Wada before arriving at the venue of the declaration.

Abbas, who was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2011, used the occasion to highlight what he described as the democratic dividends his representation had attracted to the constituency over the years.

‘These Are Visible Projects’
Addressing the gathering, the Speaker said his decision to seek another mandate was based on performance, not empty promises.

He said the projects and interventions executed under his representation had empowered residents, supported livelihoods and brought development closer to the people.

Abbas said, “These are not theories. These are visible projects. These are measurable results.”

He added, “Today, I formally declare my intention to seek another mandate to represent the good people of Zaria Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

“This declaration is not based on promises alone. It is based on work. It is based on results. It is based on a record that our people can see and verify.

“When you first entrusted me with this responsibility, I made a commitment that representation would not be distant from the people.

“I said leadership must produce visible outcomes. I said public office must improve lives. And together, we have worked to fulfil that promise.”

Speaker Cites Legislative Record
Abbas described himself as one of the most active lawmakers in the country, saying he had sponsored 74 bills, out of which 21 had been signed into law.

According to him, the bills were not sponsored for publicity, but to address real problems and strengthen governance.

He said, “These were not efforts designed for publicity. They were aimed at solving problems and strengthening governance.”

The Speaker maintained that his time in the National Assembly had been devoted to lawmaking, constituency development and interventions targeted at improving the welfare of the people.

Listing some of his empowerment initiatives, Abbas said farmers in Zaria Federal Constituency had received tractors, fertilisers and agricultural equipment to boost food production and improve livelihoods.

He said the interventions were necessary because agriculture remained central to the local economy and the survival of many families in the constituency.

Abbas stated, “We supported farmers with tractors, fertilisers, and agricultural equipment because we understand the importance of agriculture to our economy and to the survival of our families.

“We supported transport operators, party structures, community leaders, youth groups, and small business owners with tricycles and motorcycles to improve livelihoods, strengthen mobility, and create opportunities.”

He added that the interventions were later expanded to cover more communities and grassroots groups.

According to him, 117 vehicles, 200 tricycles and 1,000 motorcycles were distributed across communities, support groups, religious leaders, polling unit structures and other stakeholders.

The Speaker also said direct economic support was provided to residents to help them grow their businesses and support their households.

He disclosed that 2,400 beneficiaries received financial assistance, while 800 trained beneficiaries were given ₦250,000 each.

He added that another 1,600 small business owners received ₦100,000 each to support their businesses.

Abbas said, “When our people needed direct economic support, we acted.”

He added, “That is practical representation. That is the kind of leadership our people deserve.”

The Speaker said his re-election bid would give him another opportunity to consolidate on the work already done and continue delivering development to Zaria Federal Constituency.
