The University of Ilorin has recorded a new academic milestone after 16 of its law graduates earned First Class Honours in the just concluded Bar Final Examinations of the Nigerian Law School.

In addition to the First Class performance, 58 other graduates of the university also secured Second Class Upper.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued in Ilorin by the Director of Corporate Affairs of the university, Kunle Akogun.

He said the achievement represented a historic breakthrough for the Faculty of Law and the institution as a whole.

“This is the first time in the history of the University and its Faculty of Law that such a large number of its graduates would make First Class in the Final Bar Examinations,” he said.

Akogun noted that the previous closest record was in 2023 when 10 law graduates of the university attained First Class.

He attributed the latest performance to sustained reforms and improvements in academic delivery within the institution.

The Vice Chancellor, Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, was quoted as saying the result reflected the university’s long standing commitment to excellence.

He described the outcome as a source of pride not only for the Faculty of Law but for the entire university community.

Egbewole said the Faculty had continued to justify its reputation as one of the strongest in Nigeria in terms of teaching capacity, infrastructure and academic output.

He added that the performance of the graduates demonstrated discipline, resilience and strong academic preparation.

According to him, “the achievement is a reflection of a strong academic foundation and culture of excellence nurtured at the University.”

The Vice Chancellor praised the 16 First Class graduates for their outstanding performance and others who passed the Bar examinations in different grades.

He urged the new lawyers to uphold the values of the institution and serve as worthy ambassadors in their professional careers.

The university said the development further reinforces its position as one of Nigeria’s leading centres for legal education and professional training.
