2027: ‘Coalition Appears More Like Political Distractions Than Serious Alternatives’ – APC Chieftain, Basiru

National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has said the coalition groups opposing the ruling party in 2027 have nothing to show for their electoral victories.

Naija News reports that Basiru, in an interview with ARISE Television, said the coalition groups appear more like political distractions than serious alternatives.

Basiru emphasised that any politician who is serious about winning elections must align with the APC, as the ruling party is a proven vehicle for victory and the strongest political party in the country.

According to Basiru, aside from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC is the only party that has tasted victory in national elections.

He said, “Aside from the PDP, APC remains the strongest political machinery for winning elections in Nigeria today.

“Many of the groups calling themselves coalitions are yet to prove themselves as credible electoral forces, and for now, they appear more like political distractions than serious alternatives.”

Recall that APC assumed power in 2015 through a 2013 coalition that picked late Muhammadu Buhari as its presidential candidate.

Buhari defeated Goodluck Jonathan, an incumbent president, in what was seen as historic in Nigerian political history, marking the very first time an opposition party peacefully unseated a ruling party.

It was a merger of three major legacy opposition parties, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), that formed the APC, which came with a change mantra.
