Shanghai-based Yingzi originally gained popularity online by uploading videos of herself dancing in high heels on the street or striking various poses, but she recently became a social media phenomenon thanks to her youthful appearance and fashion style, confident attitude, and positive vibes.
“I’ve always believed that age is just a number. What matters is keeping the spirit young,” Yingzi said in an interview, adding that the key to a youthful appearance isn’t expensive cosmetics, but self-confidence and living life on one’s own terms.
The mother of a 45-year-old son obviously makes the secret to her incredible looks sound much simpler than it is. In reality, she has a very disciplined lifestyle. She never eats after 5 pm, favors soups, green vegetables, and protein-rich foods before carbohydrates, and starts every day with an hour of yoga.
Yingzi has been interested in beauty and fashion ever since she was a child, but she never considered building a career around her interests. She worked as a kindergarten manager before moving to Japan with her husband and son in the 1980s and landing a job at a restaurant where she honed her skills for several years.
Despite opening her own Chinese restaurant in Japan and being featured in a popular magazine, Yingzi eventually returned to her home country. In 2022, after turning 70, she joined “Beijing Fashion Grandmas,” a fashion group whose members are, on average, at least 65 years old. As a member, she fulfilled her childhood dream of walking the runway as a model at Shanghai Disneyland.
“Age is not a barrier but an asset, I want to live beautifully until I am 120 years old,” Yingzi recently said.
