Taylor Swift had the best seat in the house for one of the greatest comebacks in basketball history on Wednesday night as the New York Knicks pulled off the unthinkable at Madison Square Garden.
The pop megastar headed to her rumored wedding venue to cheer on the Knicks against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, although fiance Travis Kelce was unable to join her while on a mandatory three-day minicamp with the Chiefs over in Kansas City.
Instead, Swift enjoyed a girls’ night at the Garden with her beau out of town after inviting two of her closest friends – sisters Alana and Este Haim – to sit courtside with her in the Big Apple.
The trio were all wearing hilarious blue-and-orange T-shirts dedicated to the home team, with Swift’s reading ‘Stevie Knicks’ on the front in a clever twist on the Fleetwood Mac singer. Alana and Este, meanwhile, wore special ‘Knickole Kidman’ and ‘Knickelback’ tops.
And in the end, all three of them were seen going berserk as the Knicks somehow overturned a 29-point deficit to move to within one win of their first championship since 1973 – marking the largest comeback in NBA Finals history.
When she appeared on the jumbotron at MSG early in the game, Swift received a largely warm welcome from the home crowd in stark contrast to President Donald Trump, who was emphatically jeered at Game 3 on Monday night.
While there were some boos for the songstress, the majority of fans in attendance showered her with cheers prior to tip-off.
Swift, who appeared on the red carpet in Los Angeles for the Toy Story 5 premiere just days ago, is a huge Knicks fan after living in New York for a number of years.
An insider also exclusively told Daily Mail last week that she is set to marry Kelce at MSG on July 3 after the couple decided to ’embrace the spectacle’ of a giant wedding.
The source revealed that Taylor and Travis were considering Casa Cipriani in Manhattan’s Financial District as a potential venue prior to settling on the home of the Knicks, which can accommodate up to 22,000 people.
It’s unclear just how many people will be invited to witness them tie the knot, yet fans are expected to be invited to celebrate.
In the last round of the NBA playoffs, Swift joined her soon-to-be husband courtside as he cheered on his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, against the Knicks.
The music icon drew criticism from New Yorkers that night for appearing to root against her favorite team, but this time around she fully got behind the Knicks as they looked to move one step closer to NBA glory.
They stormed 2-0 ahead in the series after two opening road wins in San Antonio, before the Spurs hit back in New York City on Monday night to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
A ticket to Madison Square Garden for Game 4 was the hottest in town. On Wednesday afternoon, the cheapest were being sold for around $4,000.
Swift joined a number of A-list stars on celebrity row at MSG, including die-hard Knicks fans Timothee Chalamet, Ben Stiller and Spike Lee.
Chalamet was also sat courtside with girlfriend Kylie Jenner, whose bestie Hailey Bieber had to settle for a suite higher up in the arena. Awkwardly for Taylor, her arch-nemesis Scooter Braun was in attendance with girlfriend Sydney Sweeney.
Swift did not have to brace herself for what could have been an awkward encounter with Donald Trump, nevertheless, after the president opted to skip Game 4 following his controversial appearance on Monday night.
Trump was booed when he was shown on the jumbotron during the national anthem, after his presence meant the secret service had shut down streets around the arena to accommodate the security procedures needed to keep him safe.
He and Swift infamously both attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans in February 2025, when the Philadelphia Eagles beat Kelce’s Chiefs 40-22.
Swift was booed that day by parts of the stadium occupied by Eagles fans.
Trump gleefully mocked her after the game, posting on Truth Social: ‘The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!’
Whatever the outcome on Wednesday at MSG, the NBA Finals was always going to be heading to a fifth game back in San Antonio on Saturday night.
However, the Knicks will now arrive in Texas knowing one win will be enough to seal the title after their historic comeback in Game 4.
Swift was captured going wild after the game, partying the night away with her close friends and hundreds of other Knicks fans in jubilation at what they’d just seen.
OG Anunoby tipped in the miss of Jalen Brunson’s long 3-point attempt with 1.2 seconds remaining to complete the rally, giving the Knicks a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals and three chances to win the title.
It looked impossible early, when the Spurs rolled to a 27-point halftime lead. But Brunson helped bring the Knicks back with 36 points and Anunoby finished with 33, swooping in as Brunson’s shot bounced softly off the front of the rim and stretching high with his right hand to tap it in.
‘I told OG as big, as strong, as athletic as he is, he’s got to be a monster on the offensive glass tonight,’ Knicks coach Mike Brown said. ‘I don’t know if there was a play bigger than any other play in the history of Knicks basketball.’
No team had come from more than 24 points down in a finals game, when Boston did it against the Lakers in 2008, since the NBA began keeping detailed play-by-play for all four quarters in 1997. The Spurs led 81-52 in the third quarter.
The only bigger comeback on record in any playoff game was 31 points by the Los Angeles Clippers against Golden State in Game 2 of a first-round series in 2019.
