Nigeria’s hope of winning the 2025 men’s AfroBasket title ended in the quarterfinal on Wednesday night, no thanks to D’Tigers’ 75 to 91 defeat in the hands of Senegal.
A few weeks ago in Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria women’s basketball team, D’Tigress stopped their Senegalese counterparts in the semi-finals on their way to winning the title.
However, the Senegalese men were able to avenge that defeat in Angola, as they eliminated Nigeria from the championship.

Nigeria started well, leading after the first quarter, but a poor and third quarters ended D’Tigers’ run at the championship.
Nigeria lead their West African rivals by a single point at the end of the first quarter, 28-27, but Senegal came out firing in the second quarter, opening with a 6-0 run as Jean-Jacques Boissy and Amar Sylla hit back-to-back three-pointers. From there, they never looked back, outscoring Nigeria 30-18 in the period to take a comfortable 53-42 lead into halftime.
Guards Jean-Jacques Boissy and Brancou Badio dominated the first half, scoring 17 and 14 points respectively. Boissy was particularly impressive from beyond the arc, converting five of his seven three-point attempts. The team will regroup and return to compete in the 2027 FIBA World qualifiers.
