The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has dismissed viral claims that Ksh250 million was recovered during a raid on the home of a Nairobi County Executive Committee (CEC) official in the Urban Planning Department.
In a statement released on Thursday, June 4, the commission confirmed that Ksh65.3 million was recovered as part of key evidentiary material linked to an ongoing corruption investigation.
However, earlier unverified online reports had suggested that Ksh250 million was recovered at the scene, prompting widespread speculation and social media discussions.
Some posts questioned the integrity of the operation, with users alleging possible misappropriation of the recovered funds.

The EACC clarified that the claims were false, stressing that the official amount recovered stands at Ksh65.3 million, as confirmed in its statement.
Responding to one of the circulating posts on social media, the commission said, “Unfortunately, you are misinformed by fake news.”
The commission urged the public to rely solely on official information and dismissed any other communication as false.
“Please pay attention to the official statement above. Any other statements aside from that is fake,” the commission added.
The raid on the home of Patrick Analo Akivaga, Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning at Nairobi City County, formed part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption within the county administration.
During the operation at the suspect’s Syokimau residence and vehicle, the commission recovered Ksh51.3 million and USD113,000 (Ksh14 million).
Detectives also recovered several electronic devices, title deeds, motor vehicle logbooks, laptops, and land and vehicle sale agreements.
Additionally, the commission also received approved planning documents from Nairobi County, all of which have been taken as exhibits as part of the ongoing investigation.
