Following the recent fire incident at the Afriland Towers in Lagos where about ten people died, the Association of Facilities Management Practitioners, Nigeria (AFMPN) has called for a more deliberate and strategic approach to asset protection and life safety.
Daily Trust reports that fire gutted Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos, on September 16, 2025, leaving at least ten people dead at the high-rise building, which houses several corporate offices.

He called on facility managers, property owners, and corporate organizations to prioritize fire safety and emergency preparedness as a core part of their facility management operations.
“The rising incidents of fire outbreaks in commercial and residential properties demand a more deliberate and strategic approach to asset protection and life safety,” Aina said.
The President reaffirmed the AFMPN’s commitment to supporting the industry through advocacy, professional development, and collaboration to promote global best practices in facility and safety management.
He, however, commended the swift response of emergency services, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, security personnel, on-site facility teams, and members of the public, whose prompt action helped to contain the situation and prevent further escalation.
“AFMPN stands in solidarity with the Management and Staff of Afriland Properties Plc, as well as the occupants of Afriland Towers, during this difficult time.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we pray for the peaceful repose of the departed souls. May strength, comfort, and healing be granted to all affected,” he said.
