Troops under the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have registered another significant milestone in the sustained push against terrorism in the region.

Operating under Operation DESERT SANITY IV, personnel of Sector 1, working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), took out nine members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the troops engaged the terrorists on 12 November 2025 at Yanaga Ari in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.

“During the encounter, nine terrorists were neutralised, while five AK 47 rifles, several rounds of ammunition, and other logistics items were recovered,” the statement said.

The military also disclosed what it described as another major breakthrough after troops of Sector 2 foiled a mass abduction of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area.

According to the statement, seventy-four corps members—36 males and 38 females—were rescued after their vehicles broke down at night near a notorious kidnapping spot while travelling to Hawul for a Christian evangelism mission.

“A military patrol team was swiftly deployed to the scene after a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system monitored by troops detected suspicious movement involving three buses at the location. The rescued NYSC members are currently being accommodated at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai Institute pending further arrangements for their safe movement.”

The Military High Command praised the troops for their “impressive gallantry and proactiveness” and urged continued vigilance in the quest to restore peace across the North East.

“Members of the public are once again enjoined to continue supporting the Armed Forces with timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations aimed at ridding the region of all forms of terrorism and criminality,” the statement said.
