Dozens of armed bandits have attacked Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, killing an elderly woman and abducting three other residents.
The attack occurred around 11pm on Saturday when most villagers had retired for the night.
According to community sources, the attackers arrived on motorcycles but parked on the outskirts of the village, proceeding on foot to avoid detection.
One villager, who asked not to be named, said the gang shot and killed an elderly woman who pleaded with them to spare her son.
“They killed an old woman because she begged them not to go with her son. They shot her and went away with the son,” the source said.
The bandits then broke into another residence and abducted two women, including the sister-in-law of the ward councillor.
Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Yankamaye, which lies about 5km from Rimaye town in Katsina State, has witnessed repeated attacks in recent months, particularly after neighbouring communities in Katsina reportedly signed a “peace accord” with the bandits.
Communities such as Sundu and Buresawa have also suffered similar assaults. At least eight persons were abducted in a separate late-night raid on Biresawa village on Monday.
