Former Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, has successfully organised the 7th Annual Qur’anic Musabaqa (recitation competition) Walima in Yobe State.
The Qur’anic recitation competition and Walima were under his Foundation, Ya Zarah Orphan Care Foundation.
The event was graced by several Islamic scholars, government officials, traditional title holders, and community leaders across Yobe.

The competition showcased the foundation’s commitment to Islamic education and child welfare, intellectual and moral development of orphans and vulnerable children under its care.
Speaking at the reception event to honour the winners, the former Minister, also a former Deputy Governor of Yobe, said the foundation was dedicated to nurturing orphans through education, religious instruction, and social support.
Represented by the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idriss, he highlighted the vision behind the establishment of the Foundation.
He noted that the annual recitation competition (Musabaqa) was designed to promote deep attachment to the Qur’an, discipline, moral uprightness, and self-confidence among the children.
He emphasized that investing in Qur’anic education is a strategic way of shaping responsible citizens who will positively contribute to society, while also addressing the challenges faced by orphans and vulnerable children in the region.
Dr. Idriss further acknowledged the sustained support of government, religious leaders, and philanthropists, stressing that such collaboration remains critical to the success and sustainability of faith-based humanitarian initiatives.
In their separate remarks, the speakers commended the management of the Ya Zarah Orphan Care Foundation for its consistency in organizing the Musabaqa over the years, describing the initiative as a powerful tool for preserving Islamic values and empowering young learners.
They urged parents, community leaders, and stakeholders to continue supporting similar programmes that combine religious education with social responsibility.
