Dangote withdraws petition against ex-NMMPRA boss from ICPC

President of Dangote Industries Limited, Alh. Aliko Dangote has withdrawn a formal petition he submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) against the former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, Daily Trust confirmed last night.

The business mogul withdrew the petition from the anti-graft agency through his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

It was learnt that the petition was withdrawn after another agency of government took over the matter.

Daily Trust reports Dangote had in December asked the anti-graft agency to prosecute Ahmed for allegedly using the instrumentality of his office to embezzle and divert public funds for self-gains and pursuit of private interest to the detriment of the Nigerian people.

The spokesman of the ICPC, John Odey, confirmed the development to our Correspondent on Wednesday night.

In a statement issued afterwards, Odey said, despite withdrawal, the agency would continue to investigate the matter in line with its statutory mandate.

He also stressed that continual investigation was in the interest of transparency, accountability and the fight against corruption for the benefit of Nigeria.
