Traffic was disrupted along Ngong Road on the morning of Sunday, January 25, after a billboard collapsed on the busy road.
According to preliminary reports, the incident happened opposite Prestige Plaza when the billboard collapsed under its own weight, effectively falling on a taxi which had a driver and a passenger.
The taxi passenger was left nursing serious injuries from the incident, as the billboard completely crushed the taxi which was left badly damaged.
Photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke show the billboard fallen by its sides, blocking one side of the two-way road, causing a minor traffic disruption along the busy road on Sunday morning.

The initial incident was flagged by Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement in Nairobi, Geoffrey Mosiria, who noted that in the wake of the incident, several youths were spotted attempting to steal metal parts from the billboard.
According to the county official, the accident took place at around 3 am, and Ngong Road near Prestige Plaza was briefly rendered impassable.
Motorists were effectively advised to seek other routes as emergency response teams worked on clearing the metal rubble from the road.
While it remains unclear what caused the billboard collapse, there are speculations that it was mainly due to structural failures, as metal weakens over time due to constant vibrations and stress.
Accidents involving billboards along busy roads are not uncommon. In November 2024, passengers aboard a public service vehicle narrowly escaped with their lives after a billboard fell on top of their vehicle on Thika Road.
The incident, which took place near the entry to Thika Town, saw the billboard topple onto the busy highway after its roots came loose on the side of the road.
Incidentally, some of the billboards which have been placed across the city have been placed unlawfully, with Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja announcing in November 2026 that there would be a crackdown by the Urban Development and Planning Department.
The county has since pulled down more billboards along Langata Road, Mombasa Road and Nyayo Stadium Roundabout.
