Popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has announced the donation of her movie proceeds to the family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.
Oboli made this announcement on Thursday, June 18, after the actor was laid to rest in his hometown at Arochukwu, in Abia State.
Honouring her late friend and colleague, Oboli, in a post shared on her Instagram page, expressed gratitude to God for the success of his funeral.
She announced that in Alex’s memory and to honour his legacy, she is releasing her movie, The First Lady, and donating the proceeds to his family.
Oboli noted how Alexx came, saw and conquered. She said he will forever be in her heart and affirmed her love for him.
She wrote, “We’ve laid our bestie Alexx to rest in the glory of God. Thank you, Jesus!
“In his memory and to honour his legacy, I am releasing our movie THE FIRST LADY on Omoni Oboli TV on YouTube by 5 pm. The proceeds will go to the family, so please help us share widely.
“Love you all so much, besties
“Alexx Ekubo! You came, you saw! You conquered! You are forever in our hearts, bestie. Love you forever
“PS: Made this video in the morning before leaving for the funeral. It was both a beautiful and very sad event”.
New Telegraph had earlier reported that the remains of Alexx had arrived at his father’s compound at Arochukwu on Wednesday, June 17.
A Wake-keep was held for him, with Ini Edo, IK Ogbonna, Mike Godson, Omoni Oboli, Ayo Makun, and many others in attendance.
Recall that last Wednesday, June 10th, a Service of Songs was held for the actor at the Monarch Event Centre, Lekki. As expected, many celebrities attended the event to honour the late actor.
The likes of Nancy Isime, IK Ogbonna, Yomi Casual, Ayo Makun, Ini Edo, Omoni Oboli, Ruth Kadiri, Kate Henshaw, Ebuka Obi Uchendu, Mbong Amata, Stan Nze and his wife, Blessing Obasi, Nkechi Blessing, Bambam, Funny Bone, Uti Nwachukwu, Chigul and more were in attendance.
Last year, netizens expressed concern about Alex’s absence on social media. The light-skinned actor hasn’t been active on Instagram since 2024.
