Group Threatens To Sue Matawalle Over Certificate Controversy

Zamfara State Concerned Citizens has announced plans to institute legal proceedings seeking judicial clarification on issues it says relate to the educational credentials of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

The group, led by Musa Abdullahi, said it intends to approach the courts to determine whether the educational qualification presented by Matawalle for previous elections and public appointments meets the requirements prescribed by law.

In a statement issued on behalf of the group, Abdullahi said consultations had been concluded, and preparations were underway for a legal challenge aimed at obtaining a judicial interpretation of the matter.

According to him, public office holders are expected to meet all constitutional and legal requirements, and any questions regarding qualifications should be resolved through due legal process.

The group said its proposed court action is intended to seek clarity on the status and validity of the credentials in question and to promote transparency in public service.

Abdullahi maintained that accountability and adherence to the rule of law are essential to democratic governance, adding that the courts remain the appropriate forum for resolving disputes relating to eligibility for public office.

“We believe that issues concerning qualifications for public office should be subjected to legal scrutiny where questions arise, and that the law should apply equally to all citizens,” he said.

The group further argued that the case would provide an opportunity for the judiciary to clarify relevant legal provisions and strengthen public confidence in democratic institutions.

It also expressed concern about broader issues of accountability in governance, stressing the need for public officials to uphold high ethical standards.

According to Abdullahi, the planned legal action is not directed at any individual personally but is intended to address what the group described as matters of public interest concerning eligibility for public office.

The Zamfara State Concerned Citizens said it would pursue the matter through lawful and constitutional means.

As of the time of filing this report, Matawalle had not publicly responded to the group’s announcement. The allegations and concerns raised by the group have not been determined by any court, and no finding of wrongdoing has been made against the Minister.
