The Lagos State Government has strengthened its campaign against medical quackery, urging residents to report unlicensed hospitals and healthcare facilities operating within the state.
The call was made by the Executive Secretary of the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), Victoria Egunjobi, during a public awareness programme held in Badagry.
Egunjobi encouraged residents to patronise only healthcare facilities displaying the official HEFAMAA accreditation logo, noting that the logo serves as proof that a hospital or clinic has undergone inspection and received approval and licensing from the state government.
She explained that the sensitisation campaign was organised to educate residents about the agency’s mandate, which includes the monitoring, inspection, accreditation and licensing of healthcare facilities across Lagos State.
According to her, the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that only qualified and duly authorised healthcare providers operate within the state.
“The purpose of this programme is to enlighten residents of Badagry on the responsibilities of HEFAMAA, which include monitoring, inspection, accreditation and licensing of health facilities,” Egunjobi said.
She added that the agency’s activities are guided by Section 63 of the Lagos State Health Sector Reform Law, which seeks to guarantee that healthcare services are delivered only by qualified practitioners and properly licensed facilities.
The state government reiterated its commitment to protecting residents from the dangers of unregulated medical practice and called on members of the public to support efforts aimed at identifying and eliminating quack healthcare operators.
