Ghana has appointed Portuguese coach Carlos Quiroz as head coach of the Ghana men’s national team on Monday.
The Ghana Football Association announced the choice of Quiroz in a statement on its website, with the former Real Madrid coach replacing sacked Otto Addo.According to the FA, Quiroz was appointed by its executive council alongside other stakeholders, and he will lead Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup holding in US, Mexico, and Canada.
“The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association working with all key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.

“The former Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran coach will lead Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.”
The country’s football governing body also revealed that Quiroz begins immediately, to prepare the Black Stars for the football Mundial.
The 73-year-old, who led Portugal to the World Cup knockout stage at South Africa 2010, said he is on a mission to use the country’s talent pool to bring happiness to the nation.
“Ghana is a nation of talent, pride, and footballing soul. I arrive with respect for its history and belief in its future. Together, with unity, discipline, and ambition, we will work to honour the expectations of a great football nation.
“This is not just another job — it is a mission. And I am ready to give everything of my experience and knowledge once again, in service of the game and the happiness of People.”
Ghana plays its first group match against Panama in Toronto, Canada on June 17 before facing England and Croatia in the other Group matches.
