The Katsina State Government has launched a digital marketplace aimed at expanding market access for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), as part of efforts to accelerate entrepreneurship, job creation and economic diversification.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda unveiled the KASEDA Digital Market during the 2026 Inter-national MSMEs Day celebration in Katsina, describing the platform as a strategic inter-vention to help local businesses reach customers across Nigeria and international mar-kets.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Garba Faskari, the governor said MSMEs remain the backbone of the global economy, accounting for about 90 per cent of businesses worldwide while creating the bulk of employment opportunities.
He said his administration had prioritised policies and programmes that support entre-preneurs, manufacturers, artisans, farmers, women and young people through busi-ness development initiatives, skills acquisition, access to finance and digital innovation adding that the newly launched digital marketplace would provide entrepreneurs with an online platform to showcase products, receive orders, strengthen brand visibility and connect with a wider customer base beyond the state.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency (KASEDA), Babangida Kabir Ruma, said the agency had expanded access to en-trepreneurship training, vocational skills, business formalisation, digital innovation and financing opportunities through partnerships with development institutions and com-mercial banks.
Ruma disclosed that every registered vendor participating in this year’s International MSMEs Day exhibition would receive a N50,000 grant to support business expansion.
He said the grants, alongside improved access to finance through partnerships with the Bank of Industry and Sterling Bank, were expected to strengthen small businesses, im-prove productivity and enhance their competitiveness.
