KENYA: TSC Explains Timeline for Mass Recruitment After Ruto’s Announcement

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has flagged as fake a notice circulating on social media claiming that the commission is recruiting over 12,000 new teachers to replace those who exited the service due to unavoidable circumstances.

In a public notice on Tuesday, June 30, TSC dismissed the letter cautioning members of the public to disregard the information.

According to the commission, it is not currently seeking to recruit teachers on permanent and pensionable terms. It is not seeking to replace the teachers who left the service for personal reasons.

“Please be aware that the above circulating information on this poster is fake,” TSC stated.

The fake letter alleged that TSC is recruiting teachers for primary, junior, and secondary schools, with an application deadline of July 20, 2026.

The letter alleged that the commission was seeking to recruit 8,400 posts for primary schools, 32 posts for academics, and 4,200 posts for Senior Schools.

It also purports to provide eligibility requirements and application procedures through the commission’s website.

However, TSC has clarified that it did not issue the advertisement and warned the public against falling victim to misinformation or recruitment scams.

The commission urged job seekers and the public to rely only on official TSC communication channels for information regarding recruitment opportunities, vacancies and other announcements.

The caution comes days after President William Ruto announced that 24,000 new teachers would be recruited this year, bringing the total number of teachers recruited since 2022 to 124,000.

According to Ruto, the 24,000 teachers would be recruited on contract terms before being transitioned to permanent and pensionable terms.

At the same time, starting July 1, the Head of State announced that close to 20,000 teachers who have been serving on contract terms over the years would be hired permanently.
