Students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, on Thursday took to the streets in protest after a final-year student was killed during an armed robbery operation in the university community.
The incident, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday, triggered anger among students who suspended shuttle services and demanded urgent intervention from security agencies and government authorities over growing insecurity around the institution.
According to reports, the robbers invaded Bukky’s Court, a private student hostel in the Mariam area of Ago-Iwoye, allegedly forcing entry by breaking doors and accessing parts of the building through the roof.
Several valuables belonging to students, including mobile phones, power banks and a gas cylinder, were reportedly stolen during the attack.

“About last night. This took place around 12 am in Omo Jay axis, Ago Iwoye OOU. The robbers penetrated almost all the houses on my street. I was literally panicking while hearing those gunshots. It could have been me or anyone who got shot or killed,” the student wrote.
The university confirmed the death through a statement issued by Niyi Oduwole, Deputy Registrar of the institution, who also announced the suspension of academic activities for the day.
