Police recovered a firearm belonging to an officer attached to a former MP at a supermarket along Moi Avenue, about a week after the weapon disappeared in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
According to a police report filed at Central Police Station, investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) located the pistol at the supermarket inside Development House after intelligence-led inquiries.
The officer had reported the firearm missing, saying he lost the weapon while visiting a barber shop and spa on Mukhtar Daddah Street in the CBD.
During the investigations, the officer told detectives that he visited the barber shop and spa at around 4:00 p.m. and requested a complimentary massage. He allegedly removed his Ceska pistol and placed it under a cushion pillow before the massage started.
He later felt dizzy and took a rest at the spa. When he woke up at around 11:00 p.m., he discovered the firearm was gone.
The officer said he searched for the weapon but failed to recover it. He then reported the matter on May 25.
Investigators said they found the pistol concealed inside a carrier bag. They added that the bag had been stuffed into two other carrier bags and mixed with fruits at the supermarket’s luggage holding area.
Preliminary inquiries indicated that the firearm remained in its holster and that the magazine was still intact.
Detectives noted that, “The firearm and its magazine were intact in its holster, and upon examination, the magazine was found loaded with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition, which is 2 rounds less than what was earlier reported.”
CCTV footage that detectives reviewed showed that on May 28, 2026, at about 1:37 p.m., an unidentified person with their face concealed left the firearm at the supermarket’s luggage storage section before leaving the area.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the scene and secured the pistol as evidence. The police have placed the gun in safe custody while they continue further investigations.
Police have also started efforts to identify and track the individual captured on CCTV. Meanwhile, DCI officers attached to Central Police Station continue handling the case.
