June 28 (THEWILL) — A fresh power outage swept across large parts of Lagos on Sunday after Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDP) announced that electricity supply to its network had been disrupted by a transmission-level incident, leaving homes, businesses and industries without power.
The disruption, which occurred in the early afternoon, affected customers across the Disco’s franchise area as electricity supply from the national grid was cut off at 1:49 p.m., according to the company.
In a service interruption notice issued to customers, EKEDP said the outage originated from the transmission network and was beyond its operational control.
“Please be informed that Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDP) lost supply from the national grid at 13:49hrs today, Sunday, June 28, 2026. This is currently affecting electricity supply across our entire network”, the company stated.
It explained that it was working with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the incident and restore electricity supply to affected customers.

“This is a transmission-level incident outside our direct control. We are actively investigating the cause and are in contact with the relevant authorities to establish the full situation and restoration timeline”, the statement added.
It assured customers that every effort was being made to return supply as quickly as possible.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this is causing and assure you that our teams are working to restore normal supply as quickly as possible. Further updates will be communicated as soon as confirmed information is available”, it said.
The latest outage comes days after customers within the EKEDP and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) networks experienced reduced supply linked to lower generation from the Egbin Power Station and a fault on the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.
As of press time, there was no official indication of when normal electricity supply would be restored.
