Nigeria on Wednesday paid a solemn and emotional tribute to its fallen heroes as Late Brigadier General Omo Braimo, Captain Ismail, and other soldiers were laid to rest with full military honours in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The burial ceremony, held at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery, drew a heavy atmosphere of grief and reverence as the nation bid farewell to men who died in active service defending the country’s unity and security.

Top government and military officials were present, including Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chief of Army Staff, alongside other senior officers.

In separate tributes, the dignitaries described the deceased as gallant patriots who demonstrated courage, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to duty.

They noted that the fallen soldiers stood firm in the face of danger and paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

Governor Zulum commended the bravery of the troops and reaffirmed the state government’s continued support for the Armed Forces and the families of the deceased. Military authorities also pledged that the sacrifices of the fallen would not be in vain.

As citations detailing the service records of the deceased were read, the extent of their dedication became evident. Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls, while folded national flags were presented to next of kin as a symbol of national gratitude.
