A set of proposed changes to the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, includes the appointment of a civilian director-general, the introduction of new uniforms and an extension of the orientation programme to six weeks.

The proposals also contain other changes to the scheme.

Some of the proposed reforms would require amendments to the NYSC Act before they can take effect, while others can be carried out through administrative action.

The NYSC remains one of Nigeria’s major national programmes for graduates, and any formal changes to its structure or operations would depend on the legal or administrative process required for each proposal.
